It’s the day after the writing STAAR test. We are all exhausted. I wanted to think of a way to bring us back to analyzing setting, characters, and other reading TEKS without making them groan at all the work they had to do the day after the test. So, what can I do? How about combine a movie with activities related to reading TEKS? In comes “The Hunger Games”. Since I am teaching 7th grade this year, “The Hunger Games” is right up their alley. It’s a movie they enjoy.
Today we are working through how the characters interviews show a little bit of their game strategy. (Please excuse that my paper says Thursday, I put the wrong dates on the paper.)
Tomorrow we will do a sheet on the setting of the arena. We will also compare/contrast the arena setting to the world today. Finally, on Friday, we will do a plot diagram, a plot diagram of the movie (both purchased from Created for Learning), and a Venn diagram of 2 characters (I created this one). So far, the kids are loving it! Here’s hoping the rest of the week goes as smoothly.
